It may pay to measure the items across the chest when new with a tape measure to confirm size when you buy the item.

Anything you buy keep your receipt to show how much you paid for it.

If you follow the washing instructions for the item and it shrinks in the wash you are able to take it back and obtain a refund on the item as it is faulty. You should be refunded the cost of the item in cash.

M&S would refund it as an RTM (Return to Manufacturer)

I’ve bought 4 this week in their sale, I’ve measured all of them and photographed the tape measure.

If any of them shrink they’ll go back and I’ll look at other shops to buy from.

    Hi All

I buy a lot of M&S T-Shirts (Mens large size) and I'm starting to get angry, I've noticed that about 25% of them have shrunk.

They start of measuring 46" around the chest and after one 30 degree wash (not tumble dried) they are down to 43"

It's been my practice to buy throughout the year when I see one I like and save them for my holidays. I now have to make sure I wear them once in case they shrink.

    Anyone else noticed this?

Yes! As a taller person, I’ve been buying M&S “big and tall” tee-shirts so that they stay tucked in when wearing them as a vest. However, after first 40 degree wash, they shrunk by two inches in length, completely negating the “tall” bit... And so back they went.

FYI - the best I’ve found are Hanes beefy-t tall shirts. Better quality than M&S and don’t shrink. Can be a bit tricky to get in the U.K. (try Amazon), so I tend to stock up when I’m working in the US.

I've just compared a newish "M&S Man" brand with an older "M&S Blue Harbour" brand, and the new one is about an inch shorter.

I bought a pair of ladies cargo trousers (ordered on-line), excellent & true to size so I did a 4* review on M&S site. Even after washing they didn't shrink in any direction.

2 weeks later I ordered exactly the same style in a different colour...…..too small, by a whole size! Identical product code, both pairs made in same country (India).

So I ordered the next size up, not really surprised to find they fit EXACTLY the same as the ones I own in the next size down. Phoned to discuss this with customer service, their response being "we welcome feedback", in store the response was "to the manufacturers the sizing is just a number".

No wonder M&S is closing stores all over the place.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
