Which licence (paper/photo) to send to DVLA

Just applied to renew licence as I'm soon 70 and form asks me to cut licence in 2 and send it to DVLA, but it doesn't say if that's paper or photo version or both

Assuming that you are not in Northern Ireland it will be the plastic photocard.
The paper part of the licence was discontinued in most of the UK a while ago and as such is worthless.

If the OP was in NI, he wouldn't be sending anything to the DVLA.

Yes, he would. DVLNI in Coleraine closed down a few years ago, and everything was moved to Swansea.


OP - if you currently have a photocard, then that's what you send. The paper counterpart became irrelevant a couple of years back, and could have been binned then.

If you still have a pre-photocard licence, because you haven't changed/renewed your licence or address since the 90s, then that's what you send. You'll get a photocard back.

Don't bother to send it and save on the stamp, I didn't and never heard anything back and that was 2 years ago.

Vehicle tax is now the responsibility of DVLA, but driver and vehicle licensing remain with DVA in Coleraine. See https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/contacts/contacts-az/driver-vehicle-agency-driver-licensing

Just clarify the even older paper green licences are still valid
