Another vote for MSMoney, I've used it for 13+ years and love it.

    Hi

Do any of these tools come with pre-programmed categories for major payees? I need to break down my spending but can't face going through categorising each transaction. Natwest used to do that with it's statements but unfortunately Santander (who I am now with) and First Direct don't seem to.

    TIA

MSMoney can do that if you categorise to the payee ie. all Tesco spends are groceries but what you really need if doing detailed tracking is split transactions where a single spend can be allocated to multiple categories.

MSM auto fills based on recent transactions, you can automate scheduled & regular transactions as part of the budgeting process.

eg. you know you get fuel once a week mainly on a Friday so that can be automated with a guess of how much when you fill up you change the date and amount as needed.
