Who can I believe about my PPI?

Options
I recently enquired about a PPI claim with a firm and they stated that I may be due over £1900 in compensation. I decided to go through my bank for this claim as I felt that this may be a more secure option. I am now totally confused as my bank has stated that I have no claim to make! Where did the company get the figure of £1900 from and who do I trust?

    Never trust a claims company.

If you've put your complaint directly into the bank, you'll already have your answer.

CMCs telephone lines are typically manned by students and bored mums on commission. They have little or no knowledge in the area. They are targetted to get people to sign up. So, the made up "what you could get" figure is one way to play to your greed.

Its not about security. CMCs send the complaint to the same free of charge to use address you did. The same staff and process is applied whether it came via you or a CMC.

    Almost certainly made up.

Did the CMC get your written authorisation and then write to your bank to query if you had PPI and how much you had paid before they told you that you could get £1900?
Or was it on the first phone call that they told you this?

Most CMCs are using the same methods and tactics that they are accusing the banks of using. So, its hard to trust any of them.

CMCs are all a bunch of dodgy shysters, they rely on customer greed and/or naivety (after all, if you signed up for PPI then you could well be easy prey for their operations). They promise you fictional sums (surprisingly exact number, I would expect I would be told the same if I rang up even though I have never had PPI) in order to hook you in and then they send off complaints to all and sundry and hope to get lucky in the same way if you throw 1000 darts you might get a bullseye once

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You've written to the bank directly and been told you never had PPI. The Claim Firm have no additional ability to research than you have yourself.

If you disbelieve the Bank send them a Subject Access Request, this will provide you with all records the bank have kept on file for you.
