Must have pressed something accidentally. I know I've done it before but can't remember how to get rid of it.

It looks like a template which covers about half the screen but there's a clear space in the middle. I'm sorry I don't really know what it is.0

Looks like you accidentally set a photo as your desktop background. Go to display settings and remove it.(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0

ooh, no that's not a background pic, your background pic is there showing through, that's very odd(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0

restart your computer see if it's still there.
