Beware of poundworld closing down sale

In Poundworld earlier, & the prices in each section have various % knocked off due to administration. However, prices on the shelf are still the "old" price. However, in some areas the staff have been over zealous... for example... Batteries have 50% off "the marked price" of them. Packets of D batteries were on the shelf for £1 on the shelf label. But when they went through the till they actually went through at £2 with a pound taken off afterwards meaning cost was one pound as shown on shelf label.:eek:
However, the promo sign read "Batteries 50% off the marked price".:money:
I queried this as the marked price on the shelf was £1,
therefore I was being mislead into buying batteries shown as £1 on the shelf label thinking I was going to get them for 50p.
The till assistant refused to acknowledged that & so with a large queue forming I asked for the manager.
She came along - I explained the above & she agreed with me.
However, actually getting the till to "accept" the refund was bizzare to say the least. First of all I was offered 75pence & batteries taken back. That was wrong of course & eventually she refunded me £2 which I queried as too much but she insisted she was right so I took the money & left!!:money::beer:

That's how their tills have always worked in my experience - the barcode comes up as a standard price and then an automatic discount is applied to make it £1. I'd guess it was a bodge because they got all sorts of stuff from different sources and that was faster than putting all the new barcodes into the system. They just haven't bodged the bodge to add another 50% discount.JaneDoeJohnDoe wrote: »But when they went through the till they actually went through at £2 with a pound taken off afterwards meaning cost was one pound as shown on shelf label.I need to think of something new here...0 -
I'm convinced that the confusion of how much stuff is going to cost in there, is much of the reason they.re in trouble. (That and so many of their products were tat)0

I'm surprised they don't have a sign outside "Closing Down Sale, Everything £1"!0
