Car problem

Hello,
I took my car in for an MOT, and they had to replace both the front shock absorbers. Since then whenever I drive it makes a noise like a whirring/whooping sounds is best I can describe it. I notice it particularly over 30mph and when going right at roundabouts.
I took it back to the garage and they couldn’t find anything to explain it.
So I am wondering if I take it to another garage for them to assess and if they find a problem caused by the other garage (ie relating to the shock absorbers), will I be liable for the costs of repair?

If the first garage failed to carry out the contract with reasonable care & skill then they'd be liable to you for reasonable costs you incurred due to that breach of theirs.
But it would need to fail the reasonable care & skill requirement. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Yes, if the second garage can identify something very specific that the first garage did wrong. The first garage should fix what they did wrong, but you might have trouble getting them to repair any consequential damage if you continue to drive the car when it clearly has a fault.
I would take it back to the first garage and ask them to reinvestigate. You could try asking them to confirm in writing how much they will pay toward getting another garage to look at it, if they don't have the skills to find the reason for the noise. The fact it occurs doing right at roundabouts makes it very likely that they have mis-installed one or both of the shock absorbers, or made an error in reassembly. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
I assume you took it to a proper garage and not some dodgy chain.
That said You will probably have to take the garage to samll claims court to get anything out of them (especially if you have driven it since noticing the problem) and you will need expert testimony. Can you get that?0 -
Hi,
Yes I took it to a proper garage. I have driven it a lot since it happened (stupid I know). I would prefer to take it to another garage for assessment then go back to them now. I do not know how I would go about getting expert testimony.0 -
Have you taken a mechanic from the garage out with you to highlight the issue. often they do a test drive alone and don't hear what you hear.0
