Credit Club pre approval for credit card, back fired.

Hey so I used the MSE Credit Club membership to work on my credit score. I don't have any bad debt or anything like that, but I've never really borrowed money or had credit cards, and I don't have a mortgage or a car to insure.. so I don't have that much good credit either.
I used the Wallet workout gizmo and it came up with some cards that it recommended for me, I picked one that was 80% of people with your score are approved.. and I got pre approved for one, then applied. But since applying I got rejected for some reason, and now my credit score has gone down considerably.
I just feel a bit annoyed because I thought this program/membership would help me but it has hindered me . I know there is no guarantee, but there isn't any skeletons in my closet or anything so I don't know why it didn't work. What can I do now?

Don't worry - the score is made up so forget about that moving up or down
Have a look at your credit files to see if there is anything obvious, then make one more application elsewhere if everything looks ok.
With a thin file, go for something like aqua or Vanquis.0 -
