Qdr solicitors

Hi, not sure which section this fitted into best but I guess it could impact me credit rating if I actually have a debt!

Recently I have been contacted by a company called QDR Solicitors. The first time was about 4 weeks ago with a call to my mobile phone and the second time today by text to the same mobile.

Until I received the first contact I had never heard from QDR before Andy to my knowledge I have no debts that I’m not in control of.

The call started with their intro... hi I’m calling from ... I need to talk to you about something but before I do I need to do security... can you confirm your address.

At that point I politely declined saying I don’t know who you are, and I would never give my details out to an unsolicited caller. They explained they understood but they have to do security before they can speak about the issue.

Again I declined and asked to understand my view that with so many scams I wouldn’t give me details out. They said they understood but couldn’t divulge any info. They finished by saying they had sent me a letter which explains it all - I hadn’t received one and I still haven’t - and once I’d received it I should call them.

Having never received a letter I ignored it as a scam and forgot about it until today when I got the text. I have not responded but I’d really like to know where I can go to get this resolved without me divulging my address details.

Can I go to citizens advice; speak to another regulatory body etc.

My concern is that something similar happened many years ago when I suddenly got chased for a debt that was owed by a company I used to work for and they had my name as the contact! I managed to refer that one back my previous employer who said they had sorted it - that must be 5 yrs ago and I’ve heard nothing since.

I know exactly what money I owe where and am on top of all my payments. So I’m baffled.

Thanks,
Bob

They're probably just looking for another Mr Bobalob, but check your credit files to be sure.

It's not a scam - just a game of hunt the debtor.

Could be related to the old debt from your old employer - which might not be sorted as you were lead to believe.

Ignore all texts and calls, if they do get to speak to you tell them you will only correspond in writing only and will respond if and when they eventually send written notice of what they want.

Have you moved in the last 5 years? If so, and it is related to the 5-year old debt you may find they will try and get a CCJ against you at your old address.

Have you checked your credit record with Callcredit, Equifax and Experian?

EDIT - thought it was familiar - see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5728634/qdr-solicitors-wait-for-a-court-date
  • Thanks zx81 & D_M_E for your responses.

My surname is quite unique so there!!!8217;s not too many about - I!!!8217;ve tried to find them!

I!!!8217;ve been living at my current address for approximately 12 years and my credit rating is pretty good. I typically use noddle to check my credit rating and there is nothing untoward showing. All my associated accounts I!!!8217;d expect to be listed are.

The previous occurrence I only found out about because someone at the old firm forwarded a letter (unopened) to me, that was addressed to me but at the company address. At the time I did not give the debt collectors my home address because it wasn!!!8217;t my debit it was the company!!!8217;s and they only had my mobile number (the same one I still have today!). I!!!8217;d left that company several years previously.

I!!!8217;ve never received any correspondence to my current address, so I think the only thing they have is my name and mobile number.

Is there anyway to stop this or do I just have to ignore it?

Ask them to delete your number as its the wrong number. Check all your files as something could be showing on the others and not call credit (noddle)

If it's 5 years since the debt at your old job, fair chance the debt has been sold on and the collectors are now trying to get you to pay before the debt is statute barred

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You do not have to respond to calls, or texts, where debt is concerned.

You only need respond when they write to you, which they must do in order to have any chance of collecting on this alleged account.

Should you receive any letters from them, you should respond with the provit letter, available from the sticky on the DFW forum.
