Outside Electricity Box
Who owns the white plastic box in my house wall that houses the electricity meter? The door hinges on mine are damaged and probably the whole box needs replaced. Is this my responsibility or can I just phone up Scottish Power and get them to come and fix it for free?

I think that it is your responsibility to repair the meterbox, your distributor is only responsible for the meter itself.0

The box is your problem.0

Hi,
This one is commonly mistaken.
The meter box is replaced by your Local Distributor. The meter does not belong to them as the post above suggests, it belongs to the Meter Operator.
Contact your local distributor and they will send someone out. It could take some time though since it's a non essential job.
I take it you are referring to a meter box that has a key to open? If so, it's theirs, not yours. If you mean a wooden cupboard, it will be your own.
It's not really something your Supplier can help with as they have no real facility to book a job in for this and would only call the LDSO themselves. Had to do it myself many times when I was in the sector. They used to make customers wait 6-8 weeks, in general.
If it contributes to a dangerous situation, they will do it quicker but that would normally be outside and a water danger etc.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Our gas one was replaced by Transco - we were advised we are not responsible for it.0
