Jumble sales aren't what they used to be!

I braved a howling gale last weekend to have a look at the first jumble sale for AGES in my area.
I got all excited thinking about great ones I'd been to in the past, but what a disappointment!
The bric-a-brac stall consisted of a couple of rusty frying pans and some chipped china ornaments, the book stall had at most a dozen !!!!py paperbacks and the clothes weren't fit for dog blankets.:(

It was so poorly advertised that I didn't even know it was on 'til the day before - if I had I certainly could have contributed a load of items as could my neighbours.

I realise that eBay and car boot sales are now kings, but I'm sure that most households have piles of 'stuff' cluttering up their cupboards, and when the proceeds are for a good cause couldn't we all be a bit more generous and not just think of the profits involved?

I had forgotten all about jumble sales! I used to love to go and have a rummage through my local 'jumbly', but I haven't seen one advertised for yonks now.

I agree Ebay, car boots etc. may be taking some of the stuff that might be 'jumbled', and also there's now Freecycle. Also we get loads of those plastic sacks through the door to put unwanted items in for various charities - we get an average of one of these a week at the moment, so I just chuck any saleable clutter in there and leave the bag on the drive on the alloted day.

The one outlet I don't use is those bags requested clothes for third world countries - these are businesses not charities, and I would sooner anything saleable goes to charity.

I'd love to go to a good jumble sale again though..................
