Time limit for PPI submission

I have received a letter from Lloyds saying that they are unable to review my PPI claim as it was received outside the time limit for submission. They claim that they sent me a letter in 2014 informing me of the possibility of being mis-sold PPI. I have not changed address and I have never received the letter they claim to have sent. It would seem a very easy escape route for them to simply say they sent me a letter in 2014. Do they not need to provide evidence of sending me the letter? Has anyone else had this from Lloyds claiming that they sent a letter years before without any evidence of the actual letter? I will certainly be asking them for a copy of the letter they claim that they sent in 2014.

They can provide you with the date they sent the letter and the basic copy if you want that, which is sufficient evidence.0

Not really as they have to have the audit trail that either has a real copy of the letter or the template used and the list of name and addresses it went out to.Do they not need to provide evidence of sending me the letter?
What evidence do you get when you post a letter?Has anyone else had this from Lloyds claiming that they sent a letter years before without any evidence of the actual letter?
Lloyds were active for a period is using the CCL method to start the three-year clock ticking on some types of PPI. I believe they ended once it became clear the FCA were going to put a final date on PPI complaints.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
