Car purchased, issue with inspection
Two weeks ago I purchased a car from a large well known dealership. The majority of cost I paid cash for with approx 25% on a 2 year finance deal.
My husband decided to give the car a real good clean yesterday and removed the rear parcel shelf, to find that it had been screwed into a piece of wood as the plastic support was missing. This had been done right at the back near rear passenger seats so looking in you can not see the screws.
Yes it's only a parcel shelf and no way should it have been sold to us like this but on the vehicle inspection sheet one when it goes in for sale and another when it's comes out parcel shelf is ticked as good, my issue with this is where do I stand as now not only do I want the parcel shelf replaced with a new one, I want them to fully inspect the car or I preferably take it to a main dealer and have it inspected there at there expense.
We are heading to the dealership today so they can inspect this parcel shelf, any advice regarding inspection requests gratefully received.

You can certainly ask.
They'll probably say no, but you can definitely ask...
How old a car are we talking about here? A good used parcel shelf will almost certainly be cheap from a breaker or eBay.0 -
The car is just over 2 years old, they don't leave the parcel shelves in whilst cars are on display due to parts being stolen, so this has been done by them and ticked as good in the 3 days from viewing to collecting the car0

Id get over it if I were you....a 2yo car will have things like this0

There's always one.0 -
Can't quite visualise this... The support for the parcel shelf was missing/broken so the dealer replaced it with a random bit of wood and screws instead of getting a replacement? Presumably the dealer you bought from is not the same marque and couldn't just get one from spares.... Seems more likely to me that the previous owner broke it, bodged it and the selling dealer didn't check/notice. If you've got the check sheet then I'd say you've got a good case to demand they repair it properly and re-inspect. Demanding they pay for an inspection elsewhere seems less likely to succeed.I need to think of something new here...0

Given that the shelf clearly looked cosmetically fine, and was functionally fine...0

What car is it?0

As long as screwing a piece of wood into a car isn't classed as some sort of "modification" for insurance and it all works properly I wouldn't worry about it personally.
As said previously, you can certainly ask.0 -
Do I understand you correctly? Because the parcel shelf has a makeshift, though apparently functional and invisible repair, you want a main dealer to do a 'full inspection'. Of what exactly?
Should they dismantle the engine and transmission to ensure that no sub-standard parts have been fitted? The brakes as well maybe?
Why assume that one bodge will be accompanied by others? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

+1
Sounds like a simple fix someone has done after maybe cracking the parcel shelf.
I'd be asking for a new parcel shelf.0
