Encrypted USB

Integral make a USB drive with onboard hardware encryption. Would like to use one for mobile email. Can a mobile email client be run from a hardware encrypted USB.

Short answer - I don't see why not!

I use a software-encrypted USB Flash Drive, where one visible partition contains the EXE file which makes the encrypted partition visible (when the correct password is supplied). It then looks just like an ordinary USB drive with a drive letter.

I presume that with your hardware-encypted USB Flash Drive you get this partition once you enter the password/pass-number.

If you usb drive has a keypad attached like Kingston DT2000 then I believe yes. It works on linux and mac etc. Fairly sure it will work on Android

If you usb (say Kingston Vault Privacy) drive has a bit of software that needs to load usb initialisation then probably not. The maybe an app(driver?) is that there for some linux/mac/windows software to install to gain access. Fairly sure it does not supports Android, tablets, or phones

If you usb (say ironkey) drive has a bit of software which runs from the key on usb initialisation, then this only works on windows

Also you need to take into account that if, for example, you are using it on a business machine then it may be locked down to prevent unknown EXEs from running
