Twice now when booting up, a pop up has appeared saying:

UPDATE REQUIRED
Your ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version 15.1.504.17269 is out of date and requires an update.
Updated version 15.3.060.17669 will improve your PC security and protect you from all the latest threats.

Being ultra cautious I have closed the pop-up, opened Zone Alarm, clicked 'update' and it says ; Component Update: up to date;

Then checked 'About' to find I have:

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 15.1.504.17269
Vsmon version: 15.1.504.17269
Driver version: 15.1.29.17237

* is this a scam to get me to click a dangerous pop-up?
* or if it's a genuine zone alarm pop-up, why does ZA tell me I'm up to date....?

:huh:

    ZoneAlarm tends to update from, say one 15.1 build to the next 15.1 build but doesn't update to a 15.2 or 15.3 on its own. It should do but it doesn't always. You can get the latest version from the ZoneAlarm website.

    Uninstall ZoneAlarm. Use the built in Windows firewall. It is perfectly good and won't show strange pop ups.

    ^^ Exactly ..

    I dont understand the need to "update" a firewall ..
    Ports are either open or closed - traffic is either allowed or not.

    Absolutely no need at all for a 3rd party firewall (for home use)
