Buyer stating item is defective, wants a refund!

I sold a Gents Watch which was brand new, the only reason I sold the watch was that I did not like the style. The watch was working fine when I sent the watch.
The buyer is now stating that the watch is defective and wants a refund through Ebay resolution. I have a few options, to offer a refund and the seller keeps the item or I can accept or I can accept the return and I have to pay the return postage.
I am not happy because I know the watch was working when I dispatched the item. I believe that this is a common scam for the buyer to either keep the item at no charge or to return the watch because they don't like the item.
Another option is to accept the return and I have to pay the return postage. By accepting the return I suppose that I am committing myself that the watch is faulty and therefore any lost funds cannot be challenged if the watch is received back in working order. Is this correct? Or any other advice would be very much appreciated.

The item could have been faulty on delivery.
You have the option to fight or accept the case.
I will tell you now that eBay will allow the return as the buyer has declared the item faulty and unless you can disprove that (unlikely as far as Ebay are concerned) then the case will go in the buyer's favour.
You should accept the return and send your own prepaid returns label for the buyer to return the item, inspect it on arrival and appeal to ebay if the item isn't faulty.
That's easy for me to say as it isn't my money/item/postage. But them's the facts apropos eBay returns.
If you don't accept the return or supply a label and the buyer escalates the case (day 8) the buyer will either get a full refund without a return or be given a prepaid returns label which ebay bill you for.
So yes, what you have said is true, but no, you can appeal - and if you give sufficient evidence eBay are likely to refund both buyer and seller (pay from their own purse) if you convince them. However, you should be ringing and asking for notes to be added to the case - such as - the item was new (and tested - as new items can fail on opening), was sufficiently packed etc etc.0 -
