I would not be happy to do it personally as you don't get a transaction trail. I guess he may be doing it for nefarious reasons (hiding income) rather than to do you over, but I'd ask for some kind of receipt.0

Sounds a bit unusual in today's times and might be suspicious. However, as long as you get a proper receipt?DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250

Make sure it is a receipt signed by him and dated . Keep them in a safe placemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

How will the landlord collect the cash? Will he come to your home every month or will you be expected to take the money to him? I don't like walking around with large sums of money myself but if you do agree to this make sure you get a receipt for every single payment. In fact you could ask for a rent book.
As an aside, you don't need to sign a new contract when the 6 month term ends. See G_M's Guide to Ending/Renewing an AST for further information.0 -
Per above ok as long as you get a signed and dated receipt giving the rental duration that the payment covers. Sounds like the landlord may be doing a spot of tax avoidance - something they will regret if caught out.0

Tax avoidance is perfectly legal.

I would not be happy with it, bank payments - standing orders are regular, proof and no hassle with visiting on a monthly basis.
Also sounds dodgy e.g. avoiding tax.0 -

If it weren't then it would be tax evasion rather than avoidance.0 -
Probably not declaring the income, maybe invalid tenancy as not BTL or CTL, did he protect the deposit?
