Need to get a Credit Card but only to be able to pick up a Hire Car

Need to get a Credit Card but only to be able to pick up a Hire Car. We have been fortunate enough not to have a need to get a credit card but have now got to get one in order to pick up our hire car in Spain when we go on Holiday.
Having not had one before I'm slightly nervous of getting one.
The intention will be to cut it up and close off as soon as we are back from Holiday.

Could anyone suggest what card would be best for this purpose ?
The car hire company as I understand it will be using the credit card to secure £1050 for any damage.

Have a look at the Banking and Saving tab above to help you choose.

And don!!!8217;t close the credit card. Keep it for the next time you need one.
Alternatively, there are some hire companies that accept a debit card I know that Thrifty in the US does.

I'd suggest you look for one with a long interest free period, so that if the hire company take any money, then you can repay it over a long period or sort out a loan to clear the card.

I've been pleased with my Virgin card, if you are near a Virgin Money Lounge, having the card gets you access without you needed to actively use the card.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

If you've not had a credit card previously, your choice of card may be limited. Long term 0% may not be available to you. Look for a "good for foreign travel" card on the eligibility calculator.

Some hire companies will allow you to use a debit card.

Failing that, try using a comparison site to see what you are likely to be accepted for before applying.

Have a nice time and safe trip
