    But 4mm is still over-the-top.


    Back when I had a Baby Belling, I wired it in using 2.5mm heat-resistant flex. The cooker had a maximum draw of 18A with everything turned on (it was the model that needed to be hard-wired, not plugged in). The cable barely got warm.
    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
