    50 miles each way or in total each day? Neither if it's the latter and you don't do serious leisure mileage. Go for petrol.

    But stay away from anything Ford that has ecoboost in the description.

    And don't take advice from people who don't know there are multiple EcoBoost engines and only some of them have issues for some people.,
    I need to think of something new here...

    Or stay away from any Ford that has Ford in the description

    Rubbish. I do 56 mile round trip to work, my diesel Mondeo is on 133k, still on original clutch, DPF, Turbo and Injectors and using Forscan to monitor the DPF pressure its nowhere near blocked.

    Focus is a fine car, decent room and comfortable but only the Titanium has cruise control if that's important to you. All Mondeos have cruise control and they're a much nicer ride on long journeys and they have a much much bigger boot but in the MK5 rear roof height is a bit low so if you carry tall people on the back seat that can be an issue. Difference in fuel economy is around 10%.

    If you don't need the cruise control I'd probably go for the Focus as its slightly more economical and around £2k cheaper and I'd go no lower than Zetec trim on either.

    Been made for almost a decade, 10 millions in use, Ford are churning out cars with them in at the rate of thousands an hour worldwide, they're not all sat at the side of the road and Ford dealerships aren't rammed full of them....

    If they were the problem you claim they are then Parkers, Honest John etc would be rammed full of negative stories about them and the review of ecoboost engined Fords would tell you to stay away yet they recommend them above all other variants.

    Yes, and the one's which are almost a decade old are starting to demonstrate catastrophic engine failure, and occasionally bursting into flames.

    Reviews of cars in the motoring press are fundamentally paid for adverts, although they can be quite interesting if you want to know about cup holders.

    The 1,0 Ecoboost is nothing like as lively or as economical as is made out. Nor is it even especially fun to drive in the variant I tried it in.

    If you like Fords than good for you but not everyone has had great experiences with them. Ford's response to the growing number of Ecoboost problems is shockingly dismissive.

    Plenty of Fords near the top, 6 in the top 30, only 2 German cars (not that they are reliable)

    Thousands an hour? Is that a minimum 17.5 million per year?

    2000x24x365=17,520,000

    Happy to be corrected, is that 1.75 billion in 10 years?

    I think you're exaggerating, millions of people agree.
