Just wondering if anyone has had one of these tests that you send off for and whether or not it was successful?

If you're seriously concerned go to your doctor and ask for a blood test to check the things that you think you're reacting to. The thing I am most allergic to is mushrooms which I added to the list that my GP asked for as possibilities almost as an after thought. I did spend some weeks monitoring the times that my interesting rash was at it's worst though.

An intolerance is not an allergy.
An intolerance may make you feel awful. A severe allergy can kill you.
I am intolerant to most forms of yeast and thanks to well meaning friends have done several 'blind' tests which very dramatic results:eek:

  • Last time I flew BA we had no peanuts because a legume intoxicating person was on bored. The previous evening I had plenty of peanuts on Times Square. I deposited in every facility. No one died on that flight!

I had the York test and feel much better after cutting out the things it suggested. I had been wondering about the full exclusion diet, but for me this acted as a focussed shortcut. As Welshbookworm says it has been accidentally tested and I too need to stay off yeast!

Moneysaving tip: I got the cheaper yes/no test first and they say they can do the full test soon after on the same blood sample. When it looked like I wasn't going to take this up they offered a considerable discount.

No, they didn't. But a child at my son's school did. From an allergic reaction to nuts. If you'd had sight of his Mum afterwards, you wouldn't be so flippant. It was truly heart breaking.

    Keep Smiling :)

The MSE answer is to forget it, this is just one of the myriad of ways the worried well can be parted from their cash. Save your time and money instead.

So if I am suffering with IBS type symptoms, how do I easily find out what I am reacting to?

It starts with eliminating one food group at a time and then rechallenging after a thorough washout period.

I'd suggest keeping a food diary for a fortnight, and noting when your symptoms are worse (use a scale of 1-10 to note your level of discomfort). Then see if there is any pattern between certain foods you eat regularly and your symptoms. Wheat in quantity is often a culprit, some claim dairy - but at the end of the day everyone's different and this claptrap testing is not the answer. By all means speak to your local pharmacist to obtain over-the-counter symptomatic relief.

I've not long completed something similar to a Whole 30. It wasn't strictly in keeping - I allowed myself some non-cow dairy products (goats and sheeps cheese, coconut yogurt and nut-milks) and i did have some rice. But I cut out all alcohol, other dairy, other grains, legumes, sugar, for a month. Then started to re-introduce things - firstly gin :p, then milk, yogurt, some cheeses (not cheddar), grains, legumes and then what i considered the biggies (things I long suspected i shouldn't have) - beer, white wine, red wine, sourdough, cheddar.

I found that my problem is (i believe) histamine intolerance - so high histamine foods (the above beer, wine, fements etc) but also histamine releasing foods - strawberries seem to be a major culprit which i hadn't realised before. I think my current issues (rashes, blocked sinus, racing heartbeat etc) are exacerbated by the current high pollen levels and so am hopeful that i can introduce these things again from the autumn. Fortunately gin seems OK:beer::cool:

    The upside is - I've lost 10lb :T
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Keep a food diary of EVERYTHING you eat & what is in it (especially if you eat ready meals or processed food) for at least 4 weeks, along with a sympton diary.

When you have a firm suspicion of the culprits go to your GP.
