Disappearing paypal monies

I sold an item on ebay recently, the buyer paid instantly and i got an email from paypal confirming the transaction. Now when i access my paypal account the money is not there and there is no evidence of the transaction. What's going on?

...and yes, i sent the item

Several possibilities, none of them good. Actually, the only one that ticks all the boxes is this one:

You responded to a fake paypal email :(

Do you still have a copy of the email? Post it here if you have.

  • Not sure it is a hoax as i have the ebay confirmation and it is in my ebay account...the buyer has even left feedback.

The trouble is, there's no money in your ebay account - so you can't rely on ebay to tell you what's going on - you need your paypal account to confirm each transaction has actually been paid. It sounds like it never was, so you need to work out what happened to the (faked, or maybe misdirected) payment.

Do you still have the paypal email? You need to know what you're dealing with here - so let's rule out first of all, a fake payment email.

Ok, the important one is the paypal one, you can't really rely on ebay to supply accurate payment information.

The paypal email does look legit. If you put in the address
shown after "View details of this transaction online' what happens?

    More things to rule out:

    - Does the email address shown match yours exactly? Is there any chance you have a hotmail.co.uk address and not hotmail.com?
    - Do you have more than one paypal account?

Forget what ebay say, and forget feedback. You don't have to pay to leave feedback.

  • - Do you have more than one paypal account?
