Vauxhall MERIVA EXCLUSIV Starting issues

Hi, I have a Vauxhall Meriva 2011 reg which is having some funny moments trying to start.

Sometimes it doesn't start, and throws up loads of error messages, which seem to be wrong, and have nothing to do with starting. e.g. driver window not working, but when I test the window it does work.

But sometimes it does start, but when it does, it coughs for a couple of seconds then starts. It doesn't seem to be a temperature thing. Sometimes it starts first thing in the morning, sometimes not.

Any ideas, I've booked it into a garage but they can't see it for a while, and my wife is 39 weeks pregnant. So I could do with any advice to help me out on what it could be? Would a Battery problem do this sort of thing?

Possibly could be a battery on its way out, can cause all sort of randomness if the voltage has dropped.

Would that cause it to splutter for a bit before starting?

First thing I would do is check that the leads on the battery are not loose. Also check the connection from battery to car chassis is good.

Find a decent indy garage that does free battery checks and ask them to look at it.

Don't go to a fast fit place loudly offering this service as you'll end up with a new battery, 4 new wonky tyres and a new exhaust that doesn't really fit your car.

When I had battery issues I called the RAC, the guy turned fully equipped with the appropriate battery testing equipment. When it failed the checks, the battery was replaced under the manufactures warranty.
