Didn't stop my UTR

Options
Hello all.
I was wondering if there is anyone who can help me. I was self employed for few years but last year was working for a company as a employee so didn't have any income from my self employment.
Didn't stop the UTR and don't plan to stop it as is it possible to work freelance in my spare time.
So what do I need to do?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Have you been sent a Tax Returnor notice to file?

    If so, complete it.

or put another way, have you received in writing confirmation from HMRC that you do not need to submit a tax return since they still regard you as self employed and you yourself wish to remain so anyway

submit a tax return to be safe

If you don't meet any of the self assessment criteria (available on the gov. Uk website), but have been issues a notice to file a tax return, you can formally object against the request. This can be done online or by phone.
If HMRC agree that you dont need to complete a tax return then they will cancel the request and close the record.

If you have not already done so contact national insurance office to advise that you have ceased self employment. This will allow them to update their records.
[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

If you are registered as self employed, you need to complete a tax return each year or else you will be fined, even if you didn't do any self employed work.

If you aren't doing freelance work at the moment, you can inform HMRC online that you don't do this, and your need to do self assessment will stop (still need to do any part years obviously).

If you want to start freelancing again, you can just tell HMRC you are again self employed and continue with the same UTR number. The website says you can do this up to the October the year after you started being self employed, so it's not like it has to be done in advance.

I know that because my partner was self employed years ago, then was employed and is now self employed again and I help with his tax stuff.

If HMRC tell you that you no longer need to file self assessment make sure you have it in writing.
