Looking to replace car - anticipated expensive maintenance had even more expensive repairs needed as well after MOT last week - I've decided not to go ahead with the work yet and have instead been searching online looking at the different makes and models available in my price range.
I knew I'd be replacing my 2009 Focus at some point for something bigger to keep as long as possible.
Wanting a Euro 6 diesel pre 2017 or efficient petrol.
Was thinking Octavia or similar. Ended up looking at the Renault Scenic as I found a 65 plate, euro 6 in our price range.
I like the look of it practicality wise, reviews sound good.
Now I was concerned about reliability with it being Renault but actually the scenic has scored very well for reliability in both Driver Power surveys and on the Reliability Index. Owner reviews on autotrader and other sites are also very positive.
In fact scoring much more highly than a Skoda Octavia - which looks pretty average to poor
Also scores well for comfort and practicality. Comfort being something that the Octavia doesn't do as well in due to road noise and clunky suspension.
I like the fact that I'd still have two years manufacturer's warranty - as they had 4 year warranties until recently.
Has anyone got any experience of the 2009-16 Scenic?

Wants to avoid "expensive" high hundreds, possible grand repair because of the cost, plans on buying a 2016/17 car and blowing £1000s a year in depreciation as a way of saving money. Yeah doesn't make any sense.

Back on point, Mondeo? Low miles 2016/17 are around £12k. Cheap to service, cheap to repair. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yeah doesn't make any sense.

It does if the owner was planning on replacing the car soon anyway and the repair costs have simply prompted to do it sooner
I was actually looking for 65 plates specifically because they're the oldest (and therefore cheapest) cars available that are euro 6 and also still on the older VED system.
I looked at Mondeos but they're out of our price range. Thanks thoughMortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

You need to consider total cost of ownership, not just the price you pay to buy it so that's the cost of road tax, insurance, servicing, repairs, depreciation. Sometimes paying that little bit more initially can save you thousands in the long run. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. its not all about a mondeo0
