Old Style Daily Monday 2nd July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

The forecast for today is for some more of this glorious weather we have been having, and I intend to continue to make the most of it while it lasts.

It is far too hot for me to do any substantial housework. I may push a duster around this morning. Having the windows open is resulting in much dustier surfaces than usual. Other than that I shan’t be doing much.

I will go out early before it gets too hot to the supermarket for a couple of things I need and then come home to read in the shade until later today when I’ve got to go out for a hospital appointment.

I only realised late last night that it was today. It isn’t until late this afternoon, so I will be trying to get across town when the schools are turning out, and then home again on the bus in the rush hour. I have suspected arthritis in one of my knees, so we will see what the consultant says.

Welcome home nanny, it sounds like you had a good holiday.

Hope it didn’t get too messy yesterday Nelski, and that you enjoyed yourself.

TA I know that you are missing being at the van, but it is really nice that the DGC are enjoying their time there. At least you know that you are providing them with great pleasure and the opportunity to make some lovely memories.

Csarina I hope that you are feeling a bit better today.

Sorry to hear that things are not that good for you dumpling, I hope that things start to improve for you soon.

AOD hopefully your pension will get sorted out for you this week.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Clear blue sky and sunshine, hot already. I have a basket full of nearly dry washing to put back out this morning, it didn't go out til into the evening but it's not quite dry and I have another load in WM at the moment, I'm hoping that will finish before I need to leave for work then I'll peg that out too.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he has requested pancakes for brekkie then a lift to my work car park so he can walk to the gym from there.

Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, HG new potatoes, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, green beans, peas, stuffing, yorkshires and gravy - all eaten and no complaints despite my menu planning error as we had chicken Saturday night also, but it was a very different dish. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

We did get another job done yesterday which was very much needed, and DH especially pleased it got done but it's not quite finished but DS1 has said he'll finish it off whilst we're away next week, as he's on a week's holiday also but not going away.

Back to work today, we'll see what today brings, hopefully quite busy so it makes the day go quicker.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks HOLLY for starting us off. Yet another scorcher in store. I wish the thunderstorm that hit parts of the south west yesterday had travelled up country, for a short visit, just long enough to soak the gardens. I think our neighbours in Lancashire would appreciate some rain too to dampen down the horrendous moorland fires.

I want to try and get a telephone appointment at the surgery, hopefully with the doctor Mr TA saw last Monday. The tablets he thought might help with his eating/digestion have made no difference at all and he did, at the time, mention there was other short term medication that might help. On top of that the medication the urologist prescribed is not helping either and he still continually back and forth to the loo, day and night. I am hoping they can hit on an alternative to those too.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed. Especially DUMPLING. Take care all xx

    Morning All

Not very sunny at the moment but I'm sure it will happen. There isn't a breath of wind, all I can hear is the birds!

Visitors and I went to see some friends yesterday who live by the loch side, we swam to a little island and back - I've never known the water be so warm and could have stayed in all afternoon. Sadly, the cleggs and midges were waiting for us on our return! We're off to the Isle of Bute this morning for the day armed with a picnic!

Sorry you're not so good dumpling.
You seem to be recovering really well Nelski, keep it up!

    Anyone heard from tru?

Have a good day, take care. XX

Bit blowy here this morning but going to be a scorcher again I think, we went and bought a new garden umbrella yesterday the one we had was not big enough and someone always ended up with the sun in there eyes so this one is a very big one which can be tilted to any angle, we ate in the garden last night and it is very impressive.

Back to work today and hopefully we will get a bit nearer to moving into the new building, we have no kitchen equipment in there yet so I'm hoping this will come today and start being put in.

Not sure about dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer after this, there is plenty in there and loads of salads and potatoes so we wont go hungry.

Right I had better get on have good days all xx

Good morning all, it's sunny here, but coolish, 15 degrees. I'm sure it'll warm up. Yesterday was hot ans sunny, as it seemed to have been in most places.

Sorry Mr TA shows no improvement TA, hope the doctor will try something else. BTW, are you getting used to your new kitchen?

BTDT - I think I'll read that old thresd you found, it sounds interesting.

Hope your hospital appt goes all right Holly.

I went shopping yesterday and found a nice pair of comfortable sandals in Cla*ks half price sale - I would never have paid the full price though!!

I gave the kitchen a good clean as well. Cobwebs were flying like flags all over the place, the damn spiders must be on overtime.

Nothing much on today, except book group and a bit of shopping, may pop down to see DD.

Hope everyone has a good day. thinking of you, Dumpling.
    Take care folks.

    Morning all,

Diva day today and I really ought to get out of bed but a few more minutes won't hurt.

Did a few things in the garden yesterday...anything to get away from Grumps continual moaning about the heat. He got snapped at last night...I know it's hot, I'm hot too I don't need to keep hearing how hot he is!

The garden. Well I think I've finished now. It's as minimalistic as the house now. Of course I've met resistance along the way but he might thank me one day. He does love his garden but moans about doing it. I can't be trusted with the lawnmower and those blasted trees... My legs are cut to pieces from spraying weedkiller between one of the sheds and the fence. The garden is very much his department but I see the little things that he doesn't and that's when I get stuck in.

Went to see Grumps sister last night. Her husband has dementia which is hard to watch. He's been an awful Husband and Father in the 30+ years I've known him but he's been an excellent brother in law. It's sad to see his decline.

Dumpling thinking of you today. You have such a lot to cope with. These trials and test are what makes us stronger. I tell myself that most days.

TA Hope you get some joy with your GP.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

SR - Re the kitchen. I am still going to where a certain cupboard or drawer used to be! The dishwasher is now where the cutlery drawer used to be and I forever find myself opening that when I want a spoon or something! x

    Morning everyone,

Thank you for that link Btdt, interesting read as I due tend to do some things on same day, bed/towels changed, food shopping etc but other jobs get pushed to bottom of queue, mostly the ironing :D
Today it’s a top up of fresh salad etc followed by a lesson on Lu at midday which am not looking forward to as will be very hot and she was a little madam yesterday, managed to get away from me on the lunge and then frightened herself by charging around the school with the lunge rein trailing after her, silly pony.

Have a good day all x

    Morning hello.gif

Long time, no speak (type?! lol). My neighbours went on holiday for 10 days, their daughter stayed home but works full time. They asked if I'd pop round to check on Betty Pug during the day, let her out for a wee, etc. I jumped at the chance :D S's sister usually does it, but she has two littlies and has to bundle them in the car and drive round. Much easier for me to just pop next door. We had great fun and lots of little chats :D They came round yesterday and gave me a bottle of wine and a lovely bouquet of white roses.

I bought some foam and material to revamp my kitchen chairs, the man at the foam place cut it to size for me and shaped the edges, explaining that a square edge would leave a sort of ridge and this way would be nice and smooth. I could not get it to work (you wouldn't believe how angry I was getting while trying to do this!) so watched a few youtube videos and realised most seat pads sit on the chair, mine sit slighty inside a frame so I'm going to have to trim a bit of the foam off.

The garden has gone nuts – any need courgettes? :D – and we're already munching our way through a few things. I'm trying to run the freezers down, I'm going to need quite a bit of room for veg. I've been crocheting lots of little things, it's far too hot to have a blanket sat on your lap while working on it. Also been concentrating on work but I'm up to date now. I need to find things to do while sitting/not moving much, I'm a wilting wimp in this heat. Netflix is very tempting but I don't want to watch telly all day :D
