esa claim?

Options
I have a question. If someone is on carers allowance, is it appropriate to apply for esa as well?

It totally depends on the persons ability to work. To claim ESA you need a fit./sick note from your GP.

Income Support is what people usually claim if claiming Carers Allowance but it depends on circumstances and whether they have a partner that works. More info is needed to advise you further.

Do they live with a partner that works and does the person claiming Carers Allowance work at all?

    No, no other job.
I thought income support changed to esa, I really don't have a clue!

Do they live with a partner that works? You didn't answer that question.

What they can claim depends on circumstances and what's in their area. With very limited information from you, it's very difficult to advise.

If their area is a full Universal Credit area then it will be this they can claim and not the other benefits. Pop their postcode into this link, it will tell you what's in their area.

Would they not just get ESA and have an underlying claim for Carers Allowance?
