Skip hire co. problem

Hello,

I hired a skip 2 weeks ago, I notified them to come and collect it after 4 days and then 10 days too, Called them yesterday (Sat) they refuse to pick it up unless they have another lorry coming to my area. What can I do? It's blocking my parking space.

What terms and conditions did you agree to when you hired it? Their operating model (and therefore their pricing) will be dependent upon being sensible about collection-disposal-delivery routes. I suspect their Ts & Cs allow them to collect at their convenience and you have implicitly agreed to that.

Pragmatic answer is it depends who you hired it from. Local reputable companies would not be doing this, web based services then much more likely. Likewise if credit risky or you picked a company miles away.. Basically you have to wait - remember they should only get paid once they have removed the skip, so removal is in their interests.

it is a reputable company within 5 miles from me, one of the biggest in our area, fee is payable when ordering over the phone or on the day of delivery, no T&C available on their website.

In all the years I have ordered skips from lots of different companies none have ever delivered a skip without first getting paid.

So you paid them without understanding how they operate and without specifying that you wanted a collection on or by a certain date? Hmm. I think youre going to have to wait until theyre ready to collect.

the skip is rented out for 10 days only, I thought they will collect it on the 10th day max. I called them after 4 days of having a skip so they can come and collect.

That's a reasonable assumption, but I guess their view is that you have paid for use of the skip for at least 10 days, i.e. if it had been convenient for them to have collected on day 8 but you hadn't finished using it, you would have rightfully said no.
