Barclays Partner Finance cheque

Hi, I have recently received a cheque from Barclays Partner Finance for charges added to my loan account years ago. This amounts to a whopping £1386 so obviously I was pretty pleased! So, my wife paid the cheque into my bank account, no problem, then I receive it back with a compliment slip stating that it had been returned 'not signed in accordance with mandate'. No advice what to do next whatsoever. I called into the local Barclays who said it was nothing to do with them and I needed to contact Partner Finance themselves. Having phoned them and was told to send the cheque back to a PO BOX. Has anyone had an experience like this? I'm a bit reluctant to send it back after she told me should could find no record of me on her system but obviously would like another cheque! I have emailed them for help but had no reply and it has been 2 weeks now.
Any help greatly appreciated.
