Death Certificates.

I'm settling my late father's estate with his bank, Post Office, NS&I & his former employers pension scheme. In their requirments for documents needed they refer to "Death Certificate", "Original Death Certificate" and "Certified Copy of the Death Certificate". Are they all the same thing? I found I was able to take certified copies into my local branches of any banks, and they would copy it there and hand it back to me. They could also trace non-local accounts for the deceased, so no need to post anything off in those cases.
