Need to purchase a window regulator for a 2004 car of mine. My window wont go up at the moment which is not a problem in this sweltering heat!

But the thunderstorms are fast approaching and I need to fix...

Have seen second hand correct window regulators on eBay between 30-60 pounds. Cheapest I can find brand new is about £100!

Do you think it is wise to buy second hand regulators. I don't know if they are prone to break anyway in which case I guess a new one would be better?

Thanks for advice!

If you're happy taking the regulator on and off why not try a cable/clips set from fleabay?
Just done my vw. £4 next day delivery, a few hours work, job done.
Probably need some butyl bead to seal afterwards?
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

If I could find a second hand one for £30 then I would probably go for it but if the only used one was £60 then I would opt for a new unit for £100 and a guarantee.

Only reason I asked was 'cos I will have to pay a mechanic to fit/replace as its beyond my talents! That will prob be 100pounds labour so wanted to be more sure that the part would last!

In which case, I would definitely go for the new unit.
The biggest problem with paying someone to fit a second hand part is that it might not work when fitted, or may fail shortly afterwards and if this was to happen it might be a faulty unit or it might be faulty fitting.

You might be able to get the unit for less than £100 if the mechanic can get it at trade price.

    Thanks Shaun
Already asked a couple of garages. They quoted 150 just for the part but by getting it myself and using a discount code I can get for 100. Something the mechanic didn't even suggest - he would probably get the saving and not tell me!
