JSA and Zero Hours Offer

My son is claiming JSA and has been actively looking for work. He was successful in being accepted for a driving job but when it was offered it was on a zero hours contract which he has turned down. The zero hours contract was only mentioned after the job offer (he wouldn't have applied if he'd known earlier).
Just wondering if this is likely to have any affect on his JSA?
I can only find articles dating back to 2014 that seem to indicate it may.

What was the reason for refusing a zero hours contract? That is what the Job Centre will take most interest in I think.0

He is free to appeal any sanction don't forget. :money:
I'm sure the above won't go down to well but society doesn't need another Jerome Rogers - Killed by my debt who was disgustingly charged to work alongside his contract. This was more recent too and why folk should fight sham, unrealistic, untenable, limiting and exploitive jobs which are to their detriment. On the documentary of Killed by my debt it briefs just how many people are in unsecure work. It does sadden me that we're happy to chuck refunds for bad loans to people say but not tackle the root of the problem as it starts with "Employment".
Best also to get more irons in the fire for chance of 'better' jobs. Kill them with stats over this potential zero hours ending.0 -

I'd suggest not actually telling them that he turned it down. When I was recruiting ( admittedly 3 years ago now) there was never any follow up from the job centre to see if applicants had turned up or not, let alone whether they'd been offered a job.
However some zero hours contracts do offer a reasonable number of regular hours. Did he get as far as checking that out? I don't like zero hour contracts, but I wouldn't rule them out out of hand. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Where did he find the job, was it via the Job Centre ?
If not then he could just not mention it.0 -
If he expressly says or has said to the jobcentre that he needs a proper full or part-time job then they should not sanction him. It depends if it's on his agreement. Like above though, he shouldn't be sanctioned if he applied indepedent of the jobcentre.0

It was a training course with a supposed job at the end of it. He only found out it was zero hours after getting the job offer at the end of the training course.
He has applied for and is actively looking for work and has been turned down for some because they say he's over qualified and won't stay around (long story).
Job centre know he wants full time work but zero hours are no good because he also needs to rent his own accommodation and purchase a property when he's on his feet and a zero hours contract won't go down well with landlords.0 -

It'll go down better than being on JSA.0 -
Zero hour jobs should be illegal0

I think there is a place for them as they definitely suit some people but companies are exploiting them.0 -

In which case they would just be replaced by "One Hour Contracts"
Casual working without fixed hours has existed since the year dot. All ZHCs do is provide a legal framework for them. For students, those with caring responsibilities and the semi-retired who don't want a job with regular hours they can be ideal.
They do have a place in some sectors that have variable work demand and have to bring in extra staff occasionally but there is no doubt they have been abused by some employers. An outright ban would be going too far but they certainly need to be better regulated.0
