When I got home I went on live chat to my insurance and I didn't believe my eyes. They told me I haven't been insured for a month! They said the balance didn't come out of my bank! After a little argument they said they can't do anything to help bla bla bla all my fault.
I rang the taxi man back last night and explained to him, he didn't seem too bothered, just said stay calm we'll sort it.
I just got a text of the man and he basically saying he took his car for an MOT as it was due next week but it has failed and he needs a car to earn money. HOWEVER. I checked his Reg and it say's its MOT'd until next year..
He also said I need to ring him before 9 tonight to sort something out or we will have to get the police involved.
I honestly didn't know I had no insurance! But something seems fishy with this taxi man.
Taxis and minicabs don't have an MOT. They have a hackney every 6 months (similar to an MOT) but the automated system you can check MOT/tax details on aren't updated for them every 6 months. The weekend is also where the most money is made in the taxi industry so nothing untoward about his claim of earning a lot on weekends.
As for your insurance, as others have said if it was mid-policy premiums then what usually happens is that they attempt to take the payment, it fails. They'll send a communication to you saying the payment failed, they will try again in a few weeks and if that payment also fails, your policy will be cancelled.
If your insurer failed to do this then complain to them and if they refuse to reinstate your policy, then escalate your complaint to the financial ombudsman.
You do NOT want to just let this be. Else not only are you potentially looking at a charge of driving without insurance, but you're also going to likely experience difficulty getting insurance and/or hiked premiums due to having a policy cancelled (that is one of the questions insurers ask). You keep using that word. They also teach learners to identify signals, but the OP seems to have "identified" a signal which doesn't appear in the HC.
And they teach learners not to overtake when approaching a junction.0 -

For use when direction indicator signals are not used, or when necessary to reinforce direction indicator signals and stop lights. Also for use by pedal cyclists and those in charge of horses.

You shouldn't rely on a letter being sent, use a calendar whether a physical one or a phone app and make a note when its due.0 -
There has been no requirement to demonstrate them in the practical test for many years, but you still need to be able to identify them correctly.AndyMc..... wrote: »I thought they'd done away with hand signals?
They're still in the HC, so on the curriculum for both theory and practical tests.0 -
It sounds like he was trying to find a driveway/street on the right. If he wanted you to overtake he'd have signalled left. That said; these things happen.
Definitely get onto getting your insurance reinstated and see how much the taxi driver is looking for0
