Anyone here work in asbestos industry?

Trying to find someone who works on the asbestos industry to give me an opinion.

Went to a house recently that had just had asbestos insulation board removed. All done by a professional firm with an enclosure and then an analyst from a separate company coming in to do the clearance procedure and issue certificate of reoccupation.

I've found some fibres on a shoe that was worn there and am worrying that they could be asbestos missed from the clean up - I am a massive worrier though! Shoe not been worn since although did walk around a supermarket on the way home.

Fibres are about 5-10mm long and waveyish and have no other material attached to them. I have spoken to the company that did the removal and they are happy they followed all procedures to safely remove the AIB and do not believe this to be asbestos. I was hoping for a second non biased opinion from another removal firm but am not getting responses hence looking on here for people with the knowledge.

Hopefully you can access the photos but if you know about asbestos, in particular Asbestos Insulation Board, is the debris likely to look like this? Would fibres release so visibly and cleanly and remain together in this way to be picked up on a shoe? Thanks for reading won't let me post link but pics are here - helpplease.imgbb.com/

Asbestos removal companies are in business to make money, likewise the checking companies. The work is unpleasant, and nobody monitors matters. So fibres could be left behind, and most likely are every time - it is just a matter of quantity.

Everybody has been exposed to asbestos during their life, and here an example is brake dust from millions of vehicles on our roads.

The bottom line is there are far more important matters to worry about.
  • Furts are you in the asbestos removal industry? What is your knowledge on the subject?

What do you mean by nobody monitors matters? Do you know the about the procedures for removing asbestos with an enclosure?
It is a heavily regulated industry.

Hoping to hear from someone that is able to give some knowledgable advice

I have given you advice, but it appears you do not want to take this in.

Asbestos removal is "regulated" with procedures but the reality does not match up to this. It is all about seeking the lowest price for removal and for the checking, and then the lowest priced labour, frequently untrained, or semi trained. Nobody goes near the clearance work, so nobody knows and ignorance is bliss.

I have worked on many buildings marked up for asbestos checks, others having asbestos removal, and others made "clear" of asbestos.

I have worked for an asbestos removal company, and know the woeful calibre of the labour and the total absence of any control or management.

Asbestos removal is a total smoke and mirrors industry. Some work will be good, other work appalling.
  • Furts, do you know about AIB and what it's debris looks like? I am really hoping to get someone to look at the pictures and let me know what they think. Do you know if visible "clean" fibres would be released from AIB? helpplease.imgbb.com/ - posting that in search bar should work. I'd be grateful of your opinion

We were hoping to hear from someone competent enough to post a full broken link to a photo hosting site, which one of us could fix......

The code imgBB give you with a break in it somewhere should suffice. You are only giving us the main site address.

My uncle worked in a factory breathing in Asbestos Dust for over 40 years, after retiring he was horrified to find out it was dangerous however, he is aged 92 now and lives in spain with his wife.
He told me he thinks that genetics play a part in all this, not everybody will suffer from asbestos exposure.
I would throw away the shoes and hoover up any remaining fibres!
I think you Furts gives great advice on this!
My uncle used to tell me that the fact he was exposed doesn't worry him because everyday we are all breathing in poisons from factories and car fumes so you really can't win, the air is all polluted and is probably doing us all a lot of harm.

I have a friend who is 70. He lived in a post-war asbestos prefab as a child and use to pick it out of the walls and eat it!!

Most of us die naturally of other causes before asbestosis even sets in.

Quite so. I was brought up in an asbestos lined bungalow, we used to drill holes in the walls to hang things or do some wiring. That was before asbestos & electricity became dangerous. Dad's 96 & still going.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Sadly I have a close family member who died of mesothelioma so as a mother of young children it's something that worries me. (Plus as someone with their genes died of it that also worries me.. Admittedly he had high industrial exposure)
