Old Style Daily Saturday 30th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning everyone
Much as I am enjoying the lovely weather we are having it isn’t helping with my sleeping problem. I’m tossing and turning most of the night at the moment where the heat is waking me up. The fan doesn’t seem to be doing enough to keep the bedroom cool.
I spent most of yesterday catching up on housework as I’ve been out most days this week. I got everything done that I really needed to and will finish the rest of sometime today.
Managed to get all of the shopping I needed, so at least I don’t have to brave the shops in the heat, and I have a good selection of fresh fruit, veg and salad bits.
So today will be a trip to the park with a picnic lunch for a bit of people watching and generally enjoying the good weather.
Dinner will be something with salad and new potatoes, I’m not sure what yet. I’ll have a dig around in the freezer shortly and then decide. Dessert will be a blueberry scone with jam and cream. I always seem to get into scones at this time of the year.
Nelski and Judi I hope that you are both feeling a bit better today.
Gers I’m sorry to hear that the heat is affecting your mum’s heart and breathing
Camelot enjoy the holidays and a well-earned break. It sounds like the last day of term was quite emotional.
Have a good weekend away at your sister in laws JackieO.
Bellabella you so did the right thing phoning the police, I do hope that they stopped the driver.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning, like Holly, I was too hot so got up an hour or so ago.
Went to L*dL yesterday and had just got to the bus stop to come home when I found that OH had got DS to text me with a request for some stuff. I'd asked if he needed anything before I went. Nobly, I returned and got what he wanted. Among my shopping was frilly lettuce with a root plug attached so the plug is in a cup of water and I'm hoping that keeps fresh for a couple if days.
Today I'm planning to carry on knitting a Darth Vader, I was too hot to do it yesterday although there was a decent breeze, am hoping for another breezy day today. I'm loving the sunshine but as the dry days continue, the grass verges and play areas here are getting browner and crispier by the hour.
I got in big trouble yesterday for misuse of pegs. I had not replaced them on the line correctly. I refrained from responding in the way I might have liked and OH does not have a bruise.
Hope everyone has a good day and especially those of us who are unwell or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Clear sky and sunshine this morning, getting hot already. I have some washing to peg out which I'll do shortly, I need to water in the greenhouse and the pots.
DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day, I'm showered, dressed and just finished my brekkie as I'm working.
Dinner last night was salmon wellington, new potatoes, peas and hollandise sauce. Tonight we'll be having spatchcock chicken, jacket potatoes or HM egg and veg fried rice - haven't decided yet.
Will be chilling or going to visit the parents once we've eaten at lunchtime.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone. It's cloudy here, i don't know what the forecast predicts. Yesterday was slightly cooler, but brilliantly sunny with a breeze.
We went to a local shopping centre yesterday, and I bought a skirt at B*n Marche, I saw a top I liked but there was nothing smaller than a size 16 - i'll pop in again, they might get more in in smaller sizes.
We called in to see DD and family, all was well there, the baby is really coming on.
Sorry to hear you've fallen foul of the Peg Police AOD - please try and do better next time !
I've had those lettuces from L*dl, I like them.
Hope you enjoy your scone Holly.
I don't know what's happening today, all will be revealed later I suppose, when we get ourselves organised.
Hope everyone has a good day. Take care folks.0 -
Morning everyone,
Another one up and at’em this morning, I would have liked to lie in but there was one of those daddy long leg things dangling from the ceiling right above my head and didn’t fancy that dropping on my face
Not much planned for today, I do have a hay delivery coming (finally) at midday so will go over to help unload it into my storage barn but will probably go back over again later to exercise Lu. Other than that I will just potter, love these long, hot days of summer and something to think back on when have to break the ice in Lu’s water bucket and my toes are frozen in my boots!
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. It feels slightly cooler this morning, thank goodness, as yesterday was horrendously hot. Even my brain wouldn't function! I managed to get it into gear this morning and have been doing the end of month/new month finances. Always glad when that job is done and all tallies! And some more has been transferred back to cover the new kitchen expenses too.
Nothing on the agenda for today, unless the ironing basket tempts me! I did a mountain of washing yesterday and it was dry almost as soon as it got pegged out.
DD and the girls have actually got to the caravan for the w/e. They went after work/school yesterday. I was beginning to think we had paid out this season's site fees for nothing with none of us going. I really can't see us going again as Mr TA is better at home the way he is but DD is hopeful she and the girls will get there a bit more once school breaks up.
It might be a bizarre eating plan to others, but I have managed to get Mr TA up to just over 2,000 cals a day with the weird selection of food he can cope with. I am hoping this will at least help stabilise his weight and halt any further loss. It's not enough to put any weight back on but it's a start! And he is still dreaming of eating something with a knife and fork instead of just a spoon. Sadly the new tablets haven't performed a miracle.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. GERS I hope Glasgow soon cools down a bit and your DM feels better for it. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning
Well I guess it was inevitable ...the hose pipe bans are starting! Wont really affect me as I would never have a bath, shower only and sadly I don't have to worry about filling an olympic size swimming pool. I don't water the garden bar a bit for the baskets out front and the lawns will come back without my help once it rains. I do however need to drink a lot in this weather and yes ElonaI think I was/am dehydrated so will keep on it again today.
Plans today include my befriending call then a general tidy. Also need to do some admin ready for the first of the month and get a shop ordered. Bar that its on with project hip recovery. Going to start upping the exercise every day as I can feel how unfit I have become.
Not eating much at the moment its just too hot but determined to have something proper today
AOD what was your punishment for crimes against pegs? Is he going to hang you out to dry......sorry
Jackiemum have a lovely time in Faversham
Enjoy your day all and no wasteful car washing what ever you do :A0 -
Morning Everyone,
I was woken up by two cats scrapping ( sounded more like they were murdering each other). Got up as our cat was out ,she does like guarding her territory from the other new cats in the area. I have to be careful as she has been bitten by something the vet has said, OH took her as a emergency last sat as I noticed a swelling on her cheek, but the vet had to cut under her chin- the check last night the vet said that it was a bite not a scratch - she is back again next week for another check up as her temp is still up.
Today I am going to the shops early and will go to check on moms later. Only 3 weeks now until I am going to have to put the house up for sale to pay for her care. Mind you I have not decided which estate to go with yet. I have had 2 valuations. Both very different. But going by searching by prices it looks like I will have to put on at the lower price.. There methods of marketing a house are very different than years ago - if they cannot find a buyer within a month they want to drop the price.

Morning All
The earlier cloud has burned off and it looks like another glorious day. I spent ages at the allotment yesterday with the hosepipe, probably didn't even soak the surface.
I cleaned two of the bedrooms yesterday and cleaned the windows, everything looks so much better, I think having the windows open all the time causes so much dust, the wooden floors were awful.
Some of the living room throws have had a rinse and are out on the line, ironing up to date and I'll do some shopping in a bit, my visitors should arrive about tea time so I'll be all ready.
TA - Sounds like you're doing a great job with Mr TA, glad someone is making use of the caravan.
Hope the slightly cooler weather and breeze help your DM Gers.
ILC - must have been the night for cat fights, there was a bit of a stramash on next door's deck at about 4am!
Right, the shower calls, hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
I'm much better today thanks....well as long as I don't drink. I can eat but drinking makes me nauseous. Still tired though, I was in bed again at 9 last night.
End of the month again and Grump is doing his accounts..Most of my bills go out on the 1st so he's going to have to transfer money to me to pay them. He's had his tax rebate come through. £3000. Would have been more but he pays his class 4 (I think) out of it and his accountancy fees. He isn't spending any of it though cause work isn't exactly secure at the moment. The job he was supposed to be starting in March was put off till June, now it's September. Fortunately he's been kept on longer where he is or he would be out of work.
Food shopping today. Not much else. By the time we come back we are knackered anyway.
Onwards and forwards
