  • We lived in Cheshire for years and were house hunting in Cheshire, but found out house by an accidental drop of the tablet which changed the search criteria on Rightmove to + 1/4 mile we ended up in Shropshire (Whitchurch). We can see the Welcome to Cheshire sign pretty much from our house, we are just the 'wrong' side of it. Does it matter? No, we have the perfect home and had it a Cheshire postcode instead of a SY postcode we couldn't have afforded it.

If you like the house, buy it. Do postcodes matter?

I was told of a case where locals complained because the council wanted to re-draw one of the ward boundaries. They were furious that their house would now 'be in another area'. The guy I worked with, who attended the meeting, helpfully pointed out that the houses would be in the same placed before and after but that didn't go down well with the locals..
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

I thought where that happened they actually moved the houses to the new ward area? Not sure about the gardens though.
