IP Address Compromised

I just had a phone call from an electronic sounding american voice (tel. no. 01777 710275) saying my internet connection will be cut off within 24 hours because my routers IP Address has been compromised.
It said press 1 to speak to a technician to change it which I didn't as I don't think BT uses electronic sounding american voices.
Is this a con should I take it seriously?
When I googled it says owner RETFORD GB who are they?

It's a scam. I can't remember how it works but they either legally purchase a service or just spoof the local numbers. I believe some people can legally purchase a service that allows you to use local area codes. But scammers will not want to spend any money.
Anyway. It's a scam, using a local area code as most people are more likely to then pickup.0 -
