Can I officially reject used car after 5 months
I know this question crops up from time to to time but I am confused about the law and how it applies in my case.
Bought a used car from a local dealer 5 months ago and soon developed an engine issue. Took car back under warranty and was fixed but 3 months on the issue reappeard. Took car back and it was 'fixed' again. Yesterday same issue appeared so I got a local mechanic to take a look and the fix was not done properly. More a bodged job to hide an issue. So bad in fact that he did not want to attempt a repair himself at my own expense.
I'm taking the car back tomorrow for a third time and will explain what was found.
Am I in a position to now officially reject the car and ask for a refund?
I know that my rights have now suffered due to length of time but can anyone assist with my rights and advise on what the dialogue should be now between me and dealer.
I have 6 months warranty and am just within this time frame.
Thanks as usual

Are you expecting a full refund or a refund less mileage and usage?0

How old and what value is the car.
The answer will vary depending on if it's a 6 month old £60 000 luxury limo or a 10 year plus old £300 banger.

Has the local mechanic written a report on what the problem is, and what evidence he found of the bodged repairs? It would be better to have this and to share a copy with the dealer. The local mechanic should document what he has found in unemotional terms, and be clear about what are facts and what are his opinions. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0
