Thanks for the last post, I have downloaded the app and it seems to work great. With the current settings when the laptop was plugged it it ran constantly at 1700, but when on battery it switched between min (600) and max (1700) as required.

I have now changed both settings so that the cpu speed steps up as required and now the temp is pretty constat at 50-52 C.

So far i have not had the laptop cut out on me and if it does not then it would seem i had a heat problem, :) so thanks everyone for your advice. I will post back here if I do get a cut out.

I installed this on my 1.8GHz M centrino the other day... http://www.pbus-167.com/chc.htm

Will this app work for Intel Pentium M Processors? If not does anyone know of a similar prog for the Pentium M?

When talking about Centrino we are talking about Pentium-M processors. There is no such thing as a Centrino processor just Centrino technology. This is the combination of a Pentium-M processor, an Intel 855 chipset and a wireless card.

So this download prog will work with a Pentium M. Am i right to say all Pentium M processors include centrino technology?

    NO!

    As Grahawk said,

    Pentium-M processor + an Intel 855 chipset + Intel wireless = Centrino

Lose any one of those three things and the manufacturer is not allowed to call it Centrino.

As for whether it works for non-Centrino Pentium-M laptops...I do not know.

Thanks for posting the link to this great little program!

    From the homepage, it says:
Info: Centrino Hardware Control works on all Notebooks with Intel CPU's.
Some features are only available on newer PentiumM CPU's (Centrino).

Just noticed that the latest version is 1.8.2 which was released on 3rd June.

I downloaded 1.7 a few days ago and I'm not sure if the autoupdate checker is working because I manually installed 1.8.2 and the first thing it did was tell me that a new version (v. 1.7) was available!

Version 1.8.2 loads a lot more smoothly than 1.7, so it's worth upgrading. :)

Maplins sell an extra fan, £4.99 which occupies one of the PCI knockout slots on the rear of the comp.
I fitted one months ago, my machine runs at about 34C all the time.
