Thanks @Sunshine_girl2 and @debtfreewannabe321!
The weekend away has not quite gone to plan. Saturday morning we had got back from a run nearby (fairly short and nothing out of the ordinary) and were having breakfast in a café linked to where we were staying. Poor OH had a strange feeling of her heart stopping and felt breathless. Worrying for me was that she also said a couple of sentences just before this which didn’t make any sense. Then she didn’t remember saying them to me. She still felt ‘heavy’ after this. So because she continued to feel unwell for a while, I decided to call for an ambulance because I was worried it could be something really serious. Anyway, she ended up being taken to the local regional hospital and was admitted and monitored overnight. They did a lot of tests to rule out various things. They found an anomaly in her heart beat overnight ie it sped up every now and then. She was discharged this morning because apparently this is not that unusual and there can be various causes including stress, medication etc. She has to go and see the GP tomorrow to take it further for investigation. She has been really unlucky over the last few months with various health scares which whilst they have resolved, often require investigation, tests etc etc which is itself worrying and stressful. So we kind of lost the weekend away which was a shame. The hospital staff were really wonderful and did all that they could to alleviate her concerns and look after her throughout.

Thanks @Sunshine_girl2, @debtfreewannabe321 and @AgathaSquirrel.
OH went to the GP. He is requesting the results from the Hospital she visited. It seems that this (heart racing) can be a 'normal' thing although he wanted to do further blood tests and an ECG. She can keep exercising so I'm hoping that is a positive sign. Still its been quite a worrying episode. She has been quite stressesd at work. I'm trying to be as supportive as possible.
On a different note, we are having some visitors at Easter. This will mean I will need to finish the redecoration of one of the upstairs rooms. Quite often over the years the stimulus to redecorate has come from people visiting or DS returning etc. On the money front it means a bit of resequencing. So the redecorating is now at the front of the money queue and bumping the new bed into March. I want to keep cashflowing any expenses like this so its only happening if I have the money available.Aiming to early retire August 31st 2026.1 -
Dear diary and all,
The die is cast. OH filled in her early retirement pension application. She needs to give it to her employer so they can fill in the last 12 months service and then it can go off to them. She is giving them 7 months notice so hopefully it will be ok. Quite confusing as to which form to complete, on line or paper. Then several questions were confusing too. Anyway, its done now and no doubt they will be in touch if there is anything wrong. So this is the first tangible step we are actually going to go through with it. Work is very busy at the moment and don’t really have too much time to ruminate on stuff so that’s good in a way.
On the financial front, pleased that we can pay off the credit card in full this month which is a stretch but will be ok. Next priority is the redecoration of the upstairs bedroom for visitors at Easter. OH has put me in charge of that and also organising the logistics of the visit etc. Fair enough, its my side of the family and so I am happy to take this on.
No news from DS. We can see what he is up to by OH following other band members social media. That is way more than I can be bothered to do. Hopefully they will pull into a port between cruises and we will get an update call at some point.

Thanks @AgathaSquirrel !
Decorator came out yesterday to estimate the cost of the redecoration for the upstairs bedroom. It wasn’t really a quote because we were never going to go to anyone else. He redecorated our downstairs a few years ago. Great with advice in so many ways. Reliable, turns up, does the work quickly and efficiently to a high standard. Its 3 days at £200 per day plus materials of £150 so a total of £750. Should be coming to do the work in late Feb or early March. Need to also replace the carpet and the curtains and maybe a new light. Should be able to cashflow all this in February and March. Paid off the credit card yesterday so pleased about that. Going out this evening with some friends for a meal so looking forward to that.

Dear diary and all,
OH and I both taking part in a run today so off in about 30 mins. The costs of the redecorating are going to fall in February. I will need to put these on the CC and pay off in full in March. Not sure if this counts as cashflowing, but that is what we are going to do. Going through the transactions on the banking app this morning and I see one for Betfair. So straight away I’m suspecting a fraudulent one. So I get into a chat with the bank and then part way through I think, hang on OH ordered some wallpaper on Friday. So I check with her and realise that the transaction has been erroneously allocated to Betfair instead of Wayfair! 😊 I was assuming that they would put the correct details on there so that is interesting that it can be incorrect in that way.
YNAB subscription has just gone out. It’s quite a lot but I think its worth it. I really feel like I gained control once I started to use it several years ago.
