Dear diary and all,
Just back from a long weekend. We hired a camper van as it was something we have never done and we wanted to see how we got on with it. We stayed at a campsite just south of the Peak District. Really enjoyed it. Not sure if we will take to it fully as to be honest it was a bit cramped for me sleeping and maybe a bit too much faffing about. Good for a couple of days but dont think I would want to do it for an extended period. We met some lovely people including the campsite owners. I'm trying to do a few things this year in a kind of preparing for retirement kind of way. So we will try out things that we may do when we are free to do them. This camper van and motor home thing is another world.Aiming to early retire August 31st 2026.3 -

Dear diary and all,
Since moving back in with us DS has been working on his profile and working towards auditioning for various performance roles. He recently went to London for an audition with a US cruise company. Shortly after that he was told he had been successful and was in the talent pool. They said it would probably be January / February next year that the first opportunity would come up, but this week they offered him a role starting in 4 weeks. He needs to go to Florida for rehearsals from November until Christmas and then join the ship in January. This is super exciting for him and something he has been aiming at for some time. Lots of admin needed to be done in a short time including visas, medicals etc. We are helping him as much as we can. All fingers crossed that this is actually going to happen.Aiming to early retire August 31st 2026.1 -

Thanks @AgathaSquirrel, @south_coast and @Sunshine_girl2!
This week he passed his medical and has a Seafarer's medical certificate. Next key milestone is interview at US consulate next week. There are quite a few steps to complete. I am investigating the tax and NI situation so I can help him with that.Aiming to early retire August 31st 2026.1 -
Dear diary and all,
Have finally sold DS's old car for scrap. We didn't get a lot, but to be honest just glad to see it gone and I have the garage space back. We will need it as we are going to need to store two drum kits. Flight details have come through so it's getting more real. If all goes to plan he will be leaving in less than two weeks. We will miss him but he is coming back for 2 weeks over Christmas.Aiming to early retire August 31st 2026.1 -
