I think you can still claim if the account is closed, but please dont quote me on that! Co-op i think have an account that you can have when you have really poor credit ratings, look over on the accounts forum. If the bank charges are a no go then concentrate on the credit card ones. If you dont ask, you dont get!

Yeah, i wouldn't have alot in CC charges to claim...well, maybe a few hundred ££s as i was keeping up on min payments for the most part until... about 6/7 months ago

will look into a new bank account, but i've been with my current account since i was 12 or 13... had a lot of problems there... (Upgraded my account, spent lots of money, had to borrow to get out of my overdraft...then they took my switch and Chequebook away) but still, if you have an account for a long time isn't that a good thing?

I'm pretty sure that only works if you have been a good bank customer. And as you might have to open up a new bank account anyway opening a 2nd account would be a good idea. Even if you just use it to help manage everything better, for example having it for bills? Just a thought.

Yeah thats a good idea, open up a seccond current account and transfer a set amount of my wages into it each month for bills and cut the card up, so i can't easily access the cash in moments of desperation...then set up all my bills on DD. Then whatever is left each month in my normal Current account is my money... would that be a half decent idea?

Dont shoot the messenger but you might find that with your credit history they might not offer you a cash card. But you have the gist of the idea of having a bills account. it means that every month you know your bills will get paid. Hope that helps,

So, i sorted out two things this Evening, the others were closed so have to wait.

I sorted out a payment plan with Vodafone of £182 a Month, i paid the first installment, so just two to go!

I also sorted out the arrears on my 3 Account, it had ascalated to £141, so i paid that amount, then reduced to contract to £25 a month. The contract lasts until 08/05/2008, so just 6 months of that left to go.

GE money will have to wait, as will Mint... i'll sort them out tomorrow.

I'm now down to having around £409 left for the month, with two bills left to pay...Can't check my exact balance as my online banking won't work... grrr..

I'm going to work on a more precise SOA and post that up in a bit :)

Hi Bobbino and congrats on taking the first steps :T

If you are looking to get out of your orange contract someone posted a neat loophole on this forum earlier today. I thought of it when I read your SOA ;)
Contract mobiles are lethal to a person on a budget. They require too much discipline - if you have to top up you think about the cost every time you press the button! There's not a lot that can;t wait to be said, we all managed fine ten years ago and some of us still manage without them now!

If you really love smoking you'll find it hard to quit,, I know I did. I got NRT on the NHS for the price of a prescription. And there is a special support thread on this very board! I miss smoking, but I think I miss the sleepless nights less :p Of course I am going to suggest if but I'm not saying you have to listen! Don't worry I'm not one of those sanctimonious born-again non-smoking bores.

Anyway, feel free to ignore me. You seem to be taking big steps to sort this out and I respect that greatly! It really is the hardest bit, I promise! :T

Thanks for the kind words...Problem is i Really do love smoking...i know i'm addicted, but i love it anyway..

i was looking at the Orange thread earlier and considering it, However, as i have unlimted 'Free' text on my current contract, and anytime any network calls, the only time i rack up any charge on the account is if i phone directory enquiries... But i am considering losing the phone... but if i do, i have to buy a P&G phone which seems like false economy to me, and i really do need the phone, not having my own landline, and rarely being at home.

i hope the hardest part really is the first steps, because i've never been good at living to a budget or anything like that, so once i actually work out a proper budget we'll see if i stick to it..

This month i'm just trying to concentrate on clearly my over limits and arrears though than paying off capital.

Not sure if it helps but Lovefilm ages ago sent mine on to a debt collection agency I didn't even know I owed them any money as I had cancelled and not received any more discs, anyway I asked the DCA to prove the debt and they went quiet never heard from them since. Since then though I have gone back to Lovefilm and they never said a word.
  • Hi Bobbin and welcome, have you tried the snowball calculator? Also there is a spreadsheet to help you budget on one of the threads. Good luck
