Electoral roll address problems

Hi everyone
I have searched for this problem and cannot quite seem to find anyone that has had something similar.
My bank, every other organization except the council, has my address as xx ABC Court, London xyz xyz
The council has my address as Flat xx, DEF road, London xyz xyz
Due to this problem, while my credit report has all of my cards, etc with great credit history, it does not show my electoral roll records. The credit agencies cannot seem to add this address. Equifax has just gone completely silent. Experian appears not to understand the issue even though I have confirmation of residency by the council and evidence I am on the electoral roll.
I am about to apply for a mortgage. I have never had late payments or defaults and before I moved into this property, had excellent credit. The only problem on my credit report is this electoral roll issue.
Has anyone faced this issue and how did they solve it? Would appreciate any tips or advice. Thanks for reading!

What is the official address of your flat? Go to the Royal Mail website, use the address finder and you can check what your official address is.0

Hi, the official address is what every organization (including royal mail), except the council uses. Council refuses to change to royal mail as they insist their address is right. Council is the only one that uses their version. I've been back and forth with them several times on this issue. I've even had to get my landlord involved. I'm not quite sure what to do next.0

Have you made a formal complaint in writing? Involved your local councillor/MP?0 -
Hi, great idea, thank you. I have not done that. My landlord's agent has made a request to the council but I have not gone the MP route and will start drafting a letter.0

Local councillor - not MP!0

Unless this is a one-off anomaly, I very much doubt you're going to persuade the council to change their whole addressing system. I'm not sure it's really that much of an issue as it's pretty common for councils and the Royal Mail to use different addressing formats.0

I had similar problem some years back and was constantly rejected for any credit card I applied for. In the end I made an appointment with somone at my bank and explained the problem. They amended the address on my bank account to match the format on the electoral roll and made a successful credit card application on the spot.0

Agreed. I know of many addresses where council tax letters etc come in one format and all other mail to the RM format.0 -
Thanks All. Appreciate the responses. Equifax seems to have gotten the message today after 3 weeks of back and forth although the addition has somehow dropped my credit score by 20 pts but I will follow up with them later.
I am still working on experian.
I have tried the route of changing address with lenders, banks, etc and did not work as they all insist they use RM format. My hope now is on Experian and failing that, the council.0 -
In the meantime see if you can add a notice of correction to the credit files.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
