Car Insurance & SORN while abroad

Hi, I officially 'retired' 3 years ago however now work abroad twice a year, one of 7 weeks, the other of 12 weeks. When applying for car insurance, am I ok to choose 'Retired' as, when home I do not work, and when away, am not using my car?
Also is it worth using SORN for as little as 7 weeks, which would also cancel my tax, then reapply for both on return?
Advice appreciated!

Rescued by MSE! Profile name out of date as, thankfully, with lots of help from this site, have cleared my debts! Many thanks to MSE and good luck to all !!

You'll only get a tax refund for unused months, and can only tax complete months, so if you SORN on the 1st, you're only going to be saving 1 months tax for a 7 week trip. For a 12 week trip you might save 2 months tax if you go on the 1st.
I'd probably put down that you're employed, since that's 19 weeks a year.0 -

Don't know if this helps you but my hubby is working overseas and he did not want ot lose ins with all NCD
Insurance has said if he was not using the car for a period of time because being out of country long holiday was the words used
he can suspend ins on car ( NOT SORN) ins only and reinstate as and when.. as long as it is not on public land ie: road etc
you could ask your ins co.0 -

But you haven't retired. You have simply switched from being a full time worker to a part time worker.0
