Toddler broke his arm and is in a cast - going on holiday in a week!

Hey all, my 2 and a half year old managed to fall off a chair on the weekend and break his lower left arm in 2 places
he had to have it moved back into the right place under general anaesthetic yesterday and it!!!8217;s now in a plaster cast and sling. He!!!8217;s doing REALLY well and is not letting it bother him at all, even jumping on the trampoline still which makes me constantly on edge!
But we have a weeks holiday coming up on the 5th of July (Just over a week), and initially I wanted to cancel it because I couldn!!!8217;t see how he could enjoy himself. But I found out it was £450 to cancel even with insurance, plus seeing how well he!!!8217;s managing has me thinking he!!!8217;s going to be fine:) I!!!8217;ve ordered a waterproof cast cover so he can still enjoy the water/pool: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007UONM5E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jlOmBb8M1S1P7
So I!!!8217;m just wondering if anyone has experience of taking their young toddler away while they!!!8217;re in a cast? The airline are happy for him to go without any doctors notes or anything which is good! Have anyone also used any waterproof cast covers before and are they good?
Thanks everyone

Think it's something to do with Smart Punctuation in your Settings, and will be OK if you turn that off. MSE has been aware of this problem for nearly 6 months at least but they don't seem to be able to fix it.0 -
I have to admit OP you're braver than me as I'd be terrified that the cover wouldn't work.
You may also want to check that he'll be allowed to go to any kids clubs (if there are any where you're staying).0 -
You probably also need to inform your travel insurance.
If I remember correctly, they are not allowed to ask for more money if the accident happened since you took out the policy but not telling them may prejudice any claim.0 -
Thanks all - I don!!!8217;t think we!!!8217;re planning on putting him in any kids clubs anyway as he!!!8217;s a bit young. Also he probably won!!!8217;t submerge that arm at all as he!!!8217;s only going to be in a shallow kids pool.
Will indeed let my insurance know - thanks!0 -
You'll probably need to have his cast cut, when I took my nieces to London someone from the airline physically checked that her cast had been divided down the centre to allow for the material swelling. We were only away for 48 hours so the fracture clinic allowed her to just wrap it tight in a bandage until she got home then replastered her arm but if it's a longer holiday you'll need to arrange him to be replastered at your destination. There was no way that plane was taking off with her on it had that cast not been cut, we needed a hospital letter plus the visual inspection of the cast before the plane taxied.0

@Gloomendoom - my insurance want an extra £40 off me for thisbut it's worth it if it means he's covered for it
@GlasweJen - We're flying with TUI (holiday package from them) and their site ( https://www.tui.co.uk/destinations/info/faq/customer-welfare ) mentions that it only needs splitting if it was cast less than 48 hours before the flight, and we won't need a fitness to fly certificate either. How soon after your neice had a cast did yu fly?0 -

It was a good 4 weeks after the cast went in. The airline can't know how old a cast is so you'll need to phone them and ask what proof they'll require. There was no way we were flying with my nieces cast on and we were only flying from Glasgow to London and back.0 -
My son broke his arm the day before going to Disney Paris when he was 4ish! Of course it meant he couldn't go on some rides (but others he was fine), but he wasn't too bothered. He did go in the swimming pool with something to protect the cast. He had a great time and wasn't bothered one bit.0

Can't help with the rest of your post, but for the love of common sense - don't let a toddler with a broken arm in a cast go on the bloody trampoline.0
