Overlimit charge

Back in July I was charged an overlimit fee on my credit card.
Fair cop.
Because of a transaction I'd forgotten about after my July statement was run, plus the interest, it was the same in August.
In September, I was narked to notice that I'd been charged again, despite the fact that I was only over by a couple of quid; I'd paid way over the minimum but hadn't calculated the interest accurately enough. There were no transactions on the card in this period. I thought this was a bit off and the day I received my bill I phoned to complain.
They said the charge would stand. I said, ok, so how much do I need to pay to ensure I don't get charged an overlimit fee next month?
£160 would suffice, said the lad.
There and then I paid £200, and despite being some £50 under my limit when I received my latest statement at the weekend, yep, another overlimit charge had been applied.
Again I phoned, and was told that it applied because I was still overlimit in the 5 days or so between the September statement being printed and my receiving it and paying the £200(!)
They quoted terms and conditions at me, and while I think this is iniquitous enough, I'm really narked that the guy assured me that if I paid at least £160 no overlimit fee would apply. In truth, no matter what I'd paid I would still be clobbered for it as I'd been overlimit for the period before I got the bill.
As a point of principle, I feel I should have the charge refunded, but before I formally write to complain (the call centre bod and her boss both said no) does anyone think I have a leg to stand on, or am I really wasting my time?
Cheers for any input!
