Quick Amazon Marketplace Advice Needed: Re Refund On Postage

I sold a used DVD player on marketplace. I did state on the listing that the casing was scratched. The buyer however was not happy about the scratches when he received it and now wants a refund. I have agreed to refund him minus the postage cost. However, the postage cost credited to me by amazon was £6.50 and the actual cost was £9.50. Does anyone know whether I need to deduct £6.50 or £9.50 from the refund total. Secondly, how long does the buyer have to return the item. It was despatched immediately and has been over 7 days now. Thanks in advance, Freda.

the buyer now has 30 days to return the item, though if they are claiming it as not described they may expect you to arrange to pay for the return and refund in full inc original postage. If they put a claim into amazon they are likely to win and be refunded without having to return the item.
If you want to win with this one, or even break even, you need to negotiate very carefully with the customer and get them on side so tread carefully, charging them£9.50 postage and expecting them to pay postage to return it may well upset them! good luck.Do You Twitter?

Good points from rare stuff. I think you can really only charge them the £6.50. If it is as described I wouldn't been keen on refunding return P+P either but at the end of the day it depends on if you wish to wear a neg (which you might get anyway).
If you listed it as new then a full refund is probably in order. You can't refund more than buyer paid so if you decide to refund all + return P+P then I normally have to do a bank transfer which is a bit of a a pain.
The number of people who do not read a listing amazes me.0
