Has anyone tried Ebico for gas/electricity
I wondered if anyone is using Ebico as I never see it on this site at all. Ive been with them for a few years now and I'm paying less now than over ten years ago when I was with various big six companies. If you live on your own and don't use much gas and electric then Ebico will save you money. They are a not for profit organisation so there's no hidden charges. They wont charge extra if you want a pre pay card meter like the others do and there's no standing charge which is the real deal breaker for me. There are no contracts to lock you in and no tricks so I would urge anyone who maybe lives alone or just doesn't use much gas and electric to give them a try and see how much you save.

Have a read of the Ebico Feedback thread at https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4415717/ebico-energy-reviews-give-your-feedback&highlight=ebico or use the forum search for "Ebico" to find all references to them.
There are a lot.0 -
I'm currently with Ebico, but wouldn't recommend them to anyone. If you have something out of the oridinary it takes ages to sort, because either their staff/systems or both are incompetent. The customer service was much better before they moved it to Robin Hood.0

I used to be with them when the SSE partnership was in place for many years. They can work out cheaper for credit meter users at zero standing charge but the dismantling of this arrangment brought about a change for prepayment users that made them being no cheaper then British Gas.Ebico introduced a standing charge for prepayment customers it resulted in increases that were poorly explained that some customers would be in fact worse off under a standing charge even though unit costs were slightly lower.0

Should have gone to SpecSavers!

You have to use a very low amount indeed to make it cost effective.e.g an empty houseEven then, if you put the heat on in winter to prevent the place freezing up, damp/mould forming, etc you'd probably be better off elsewhere.
Ebico are on all the comparison sites, so if they are the cheapest, they will be at the top.
They are a not for profit organisation so there's no hidden charges
Please explain your logic.

Unfortunately Ebico Zero (Ebico's zero standing charge tariff) is only available to credit meter customers. i.e. it is not available to PPM customers.
There are other suppliers that also offer a zero standing charge tariff to credit meter customers.
There are no contracts to lock you in
Whilst that is true for the Ebico zero tariff(and their PPM tariff)you need to remember this is a variable tariff, so prices can go up or down at any time (the current trend is upwards)But there is a fixed 12 month or 18 month tariff available to credit meter custiomers ... but a £30 per fuel early exit fee applies
Otherwise, I agree with everything you have posted here

Such a shame, they keep pestering you to have a smart meter

Which is odd, because Ebico are not installing them yet... :cool:0 -
I had an email from Ebico extolling the virtues of smart meters months ago and then had a call from IIRC smartGB about an appointment. The poor lady who called was unlucky as the only reason my phone was turned on was because I was off work sick. I blew up pretty badly on her and haven't received anything since. But Ebico definately are installing smart meters.

Ebico suits me. As I have solar panels and a wood burning stove in the lounge I'm a very low user.
Only a couple of weeks ago I did a price comparison check and the cheapest alternative annual standing charge alone was more than I was paying for gas.
Not had any problems in other respects. As ever, do your own sums.0 -

From Ebico's own website:Do you offer smart meters?
All homes in Britain will have their gas and electricity meters replaced by smart meters over the next few years as part of Government plans. You can read more about their benefits here.
We will be rolling out smart meters to all our customers over the next few years. We will write to you with more information when we are ready to install one in your home. In the meantime if you already have a smart meter from another energy supplier and you switch over to Ebico, it may revert to !!!8220;dumb!!!8221; mode please contact us for more details.0 -

I suggest you check again(or go to Specsavers!)
As I mentioned, there are other suppliers who offer zero standing charge tariffs. so unless Ebico are now paying you to use their gas, then your assertion is simply untrue.
Looking at Eastern supply region, I see there are at least 2 suppliers offering gas with zero standing charges that charge less than 4.8p per kWh, whilst Ebico charge over 5.1p0
