have you tried calling some of the smaller firms and brokerages, there are loads in the back of car magazines (what car/ evo/auto trader). Most of the price comparison sites just search the mainstream hence why your getting such high quotes I would guess.0

I've found in th past to be cheapest.:

I have just gotten a fabulous price through.....moneysupermarket.com a company called......quinn direct
or https://www.quinn-direct.com
try them and drive safelyToday, my BEST is good enough.0 -
bell.co.uk have always been the cheapest for my boyfriend (who has driven golf gti's from passing his test), plus you gain a years no claims in 10 months, if you can pay the full amount upfront tends to save you at least a £100 instead of paying by direct debit.0

I always found Endlsiegh to be the cheapest for me when I was younger. I also did my Pass Plus after I'd passed my test and that made the premiums less than half the original quotes.
Good luck with your test!Proud to be a Clob Clubber :beer:0 -
Apparently if you put another driver (older - maybe a parent) as a named driver the insurance is reduced. Don't ask why but it works.

This works because as two of you are driving the risk is shared between the younger, riskier driver and the older more sensible driver (Well you get the idea) thus the overall risk is a mean value between the two and is lower than just one person driving.
PHEW:rolleyes:
Be carefull though, its a bit naughty doing this as your technicially lying about the risk involved. If the insurance company find out the younger person is driving all the time and you crash. Guess who is not going to pay out and void your cover:rolleyes:
You could try doing your Pass Plus? Most companies give a discount that pays for the extra course and after that you will save money every year. The IAM is a bit like that too.
I was with Quinn Direct in Dublin when I was younger. Good company!0 -
My 17 yr old is learning & I've got insurance with Quinn Direct in my name with him as a named driver - & he won't be driving the most as he's in 6th form so I & my husband both use the little corsa that he's got - he'll use it on the w/e & maybe the evenings if he goes out (which isn't a lot as he's studying) - it cost about £5500

How is adding someone who "may" drive your car "A bit naughty"??
It's far from it adding them as the main driver when they aren't is naughty adding someone who may want/need to drive the car is not naughty at all.
We insure our car thru an elderly aunt (70 this year) so we get our fully comp for £250 a year instead of £1200 (im 32 btw) I am down as the main driver, the car is registered in her name and the car is kept at our address and the DVLA and NU both know what the situ is and are fine with it. My partner only has a provisisional licence and is insured on the car but doesnt drive it very often so is that naughty too?
As long as its just an extra driver its not naughty as all you are doing is covering yourself that this 3rd party may at some point want/need to drive the car.
Adding someone without telling them would be naughty though0 -

You're confusing this with putting an older person as the main driver and the younger driver as the named driver, when in fact it's the younger driver who uses the vehicle most. Adding an older driver as named isn't generally considered a problem by insurers.0
