Have they even got the EHIC card? Just remember that all your cash is tied up in fixed term accounts & is therefore inaccessible. I'm prepared to bet that if you cough up any cash for this person you will never see it back, they probably won't see it as important like they didn't see insurance as important.

Mind you own business and do nothing - but as it clearly bothers you and not your "friend" perhaps you should choose a more compatible travelling companion in the future or better yet travel alone so you do not have to worry about how inadequate your friends are.

I've always booked travel insurance about a week before my trip - if i loose the cost of the air fare it's not the end of the world as I normally only pay £50-£100 for most trips and I normally pay on checkout for my hotel rather than one that insists on payment up front.

Would they really get their money back, just because they didnt want to travel alone?

Usually travel insurance companies accept cancellation claims where one of two people have to cancel - not so with groups for obvious reasons, but it's deemed reasonable to cancel where there's just the two of you.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
